We have definitely started collecting a lot more sandals.

Hi, I'm Rochelle, and I'm Josh, and we're the Coys.

We have two kids, Macy, who's 10, and Archer, who's five.

We ended up with a 10x20 Modul pool with white tile and a white mini pebble finish. The backyard was pretty much what you see today, just without the pool.

During the summer we'd have guests over and eat dinner outside, but for the most part it wasn't used like it is today. Before, we had one of those inflatable bounce houses that we'd hook up with water during the summer.

The first few weeks after the pool was finished, our daughter was asking to jump in the pool at 7:00 in the morning. If it was warm enough, they were in the water. I remember our neighbor coming over and saying, "I hear you're really enjoying your new pool."

Now, when the kids come home from school, the neighborhood kids head home, grab their swimsuits, and come right back over. Our kids drop their backpacks, change into their swimsuits, and everyone jumps in the pool.

We've definitely had to keep the refrigerator and the snack cabinet a lot more stocked.

We even had a big birthday party back here, and you'd be surprised how many people you can fit in a 10x20 pool. That's probably the biggest change—our home has become the gathering place for family, friends, and neighbors.

Once the kids go to bed, we get to enjoy it too. We added a TV and some landscape lighting when we redid parts of the backyard, and one thing we never really expected was how much we'd enjoy just getting in the pool together at night. It's become a really nice way to spend time with each other that we never had before.

There have been so many unexpected benefits. As the kids get older, or even just for us in the evenings, we keep finding new ways to enjoy the pool.

Our son Archer is still only five, almost six, so he's just starting his swimming journey. Having the pool in our backyard has been huge for helping him become more comfortable and confident in the water.

We also have a 10-month-old nephew who will grow up around the pool. Those are things we never really thought about before. We were always going to someone else's house or the neighborhood pool, and now it's all right here at home.

A year ago, if you had asked us, we never would have imagined we'd already have a pool built and be enjoying it. Looking back over the last year, it's pretty remarkable how quickly everything came together.

We took on a lot at once. We were building the pool while doing other projects around the house, but Modul was great to work with. They moved so quickly that I actually had to ask them to slow down a couple of times because we were trying to coordinate everything else happening at the house. Even with all of that, the pool was completed within the time frame they promised, and the kids were swimming exactly when they said they would be.

Now our house has earned the nickname "The Koi Pond" in the neighborhood, and it's open for everyone.
